New Release- Since You've Been Gone by Morgan Matson

Synopsis:

The Pre-Sloane Emily didn't go to parties, she barely talked to guys, she didn't do anything crazy. Enter Sloane, social tornado and the best kind of best friend—the one who yanks you out of your shell. But right before what should have been an epic summer, Sloane just... disappears. No note. No calls. No texts. No Sloane. There’s just a random to-do list. On it, thirteen Sloane-selected-definitely-bizarre-tasks that Emily would never try... unless they could lead back to her best friend. Apple Picking at Night? Ok, easy enough.Dance until Dawn? Sure. Why not? Kiss a Stranger? Wait... what?

Getting through Sloane’s list would mean a lot of firsts. But Emily has this whole unexpected summer ahead of her, and the help of Frank Porter (totally unexpected) to check things off. Who knows what she’ll find?

Go Skinny Dipping? Um...

Hands down to another book by Morgan Matson! The author of the highly-recommended titles: Amy and Roger's Epic Detour and Second Chance Summer.

To be honest ......

I have never read any of her works, which is EMBARRASSING ! It seems like I wanna hide in my closet forever! >_<

ANYWAY.

When I read the synopsis of this book I was like wai-whaa-that's just cool. I wanna have that! The story might be a little cliche. The story is actually a bit similar to 'The Amanda Project' but the attack is probably different. The title sounds a bit cheesy but it actually is about best friends. Maybe there's romance in there too but more on the friendship part is shown. I'm thinking that this is a good start for me to read Morgan Matson's works.  I've read a few reviews about it from Tiff and Regan of Peruse Project. They were as excited as I am to have this book!

The book was said to be released on May 6th by Simon and Schuster so definitely check it out!

Pages:  278

My Rating: 4/5 stars

This is a book that you can actually get hooked into immediately. It seems like the book itself is trying to persuade you intoreading it. Just like how Jessamine was drawn into the poisonous plants, I too was drawn in the book. In terms of novel writing though, the author simply had a great writing style and concept. It is the syle of writing that makes you want to continuereading the book. But in some reader's case, it is purely magic. The whole concept is different, very unique. In the best way of course.

Going on to th 'Character Development'. I believe that Weed's and Jessamine's character made an impact. Their characters was well developed as I flipped through the pages. Weed, on the first few chapters where he appeared, was this boy who doesn't know much about people but knows a lot about plants. He cares for them too much that he appears to be heartless on a person's perspective. But as you go on, you would see his transformatio from that boy to a loving man. He learned to entertain his feelings toward people. Jessamine, on the other hand, was this girl who knew nothing but to take care of her belladonna seeds, keep track of the weather and plants on her garden diary, and worry about her father. But when she met Weed, she became independent, mature even. Though their changes had some negative effects on others, especially to Jessamine's father, I believe that they compliment each other really well.

Content-wise, I rated this book 4 out of 5 stars on Goodreads. Like I said, the whole concept and idea of the poison garden was very different. I've never read a book similar to this one. And I love it. The only reason why I gave it 4 stars and not 5, is because, for me, it was a very dark read. The story was full of negative emotions that you'll probably encounter on the latter part. But I also liked it that way because it shows reality in it.

Book Review - The Sky is Everywhere by Jandy Nelson

I rated this 3 out 5 stars for explainable reasons.

Well yeah, here it goes:

It was a good story but I just didn't get hooked on it. If you know what I mean. This book was recommended to me by the fantastic Katytastic because I asked her for books similar to Eleanor and Park. :) Maybe this types of story just aren't my type of books.

The character can get very selfish sometimes, and then at one point she will be regretting everything she've done. Kinda confused me in there. Personally, I didn't like Lennie's character.

What I liked about this book though, are the letters that Lennie writes on a candy wrapper, or on the trunk of a tree. It was great. It gives you a hint of what will happen and how the main character feels. :)
